I wish to thank all of the over 200,000 Democratic voters in the state of Florida for casting their vote for my candidacy in the Democratic primary for Governor of Florida. It was humbling to know that so many Florida residents put their confidence in our platform and progressive ideas, and in my person.
While the official state of Florida Elections Division vote count for us is holding at 199,815, I received a note from a campaign colleague, Darcy Richardson, in Jacksonville, saying the following about the official vote count:
"You're already well beyond 200,000. You picked up 380 absentee ballots in Duval County alone earlier today (Wednesday). Those were absentee ballots received on Monday and Tuesday, but according to Florida law, aren't tabulated until the day after the election. The same thing applies in each of Florida's 67 counties."
So we expect to end with 205,000 to 210,000 votes in total by the end of the final vote count.
"Creative Loafing Tampa's" Mitch Perry wrote today (August 26th) the following: "Although most pundits will ignore it, check out the fact that [Alex] Sink's only Democratic party opponent, Spring Hill resident Brian Moore (the 2008 Socialist candidate for president) received 23 percenta of the vote, meaning nearly one out of every four Democrats who went to the polls deliberately chose not to vote for Sink. I'm going to speculate that some of that vote was from the Democratic Left, thoroughly unimpressed by Sink's primary campaign (such as it was)."
Again, it is heart-warming to know that so many of you voted for an independent, progressive ticket. You really did send a message to the Democratic Party of Florida, and nationally! Congratulations, for voting your conscience.
